When I checked my Twitter earlier today it was as though my entire feed was in a state of shock. Large numbers of people were hearing news that something utterly awful had happened.
I did not know Jacintha Saldanha, but I tend to think of my fellow nurses as comrades in arms. As a mental health nurse, the most important aim of the services I work for is to ensure that people receive the help they need before they feel compelled to die by their own hand. For that reason I found the news doubly sad.
